Cien Malos: packaging design for Mexican tequila
Label design and distribution boxes for imported tequila
Cien Malos is a tequila brand from the Aztec state of Jalisco, land where blue agave is found, the plant from which the exquisite flavour of this drink for brave people comes. Under this brand they commercialize two varieties of tequila, white and gold, and in 2017 they contacted Pixelarte to achieve their greatest business challenge: to be the tequila that suppliers chose from among all the available brands.
For the ambitious objective of beating its renowned competition, it was necessary to renew the label design and its packaging, so they would be able to communicate the values of their corporate image and record the high quality of their product. For this reason, we chose a visual code based on the origin and tradition of this legendary distillate. For the packaging design, we chose a bottle that was reminiscent of contraband liquor, both in the shape and quality of the glass. And, in addition, we also created a distribution box that emulated the wooden texture in which these drinks used to be sold.
Regarding the label, we did a manual-lettering job and chose a labelling design with different combinations of metallic inks, scrapes and a stamping design applied according to each variety. Also, to achieve a more striking image, we carried out an illustration design with the most typical references of Mexico, such as the skull and representative flowers of the Day of the Dead.
Cien Malos achieved their goal thanks to their new identity, and now this tequila becomes an experience that takes you directly to the heart of Mexico.
