Finca del Mar: label design for an iconic wine from Bodegas Vicente Gandía
Labelling redesign for a legendary range of wines in Europe
Bodegas Vicente Gandía was born in 1885 in a wine warehouse from the Grao district of Valencia. This family company, which belongs to one of the most recognized business lines in the Valencian Community and who has accumulated several prestigious awards, had already worked with us to design the label for its Ostras Pedrín wine. Therefore, the commission to elaborate the redesign of labelling for its famous range of Finca del Mar wines was a challenge with a flavour of success.
Bodegas Vicente Gandía once again outsourced its packaging redesign with us, this time for one of their star products worldwide. On this occasion, they needed a new brand positioning for their Finca del Mar wines, which have five single-varietals: Cabernet sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Monastrell and Tempranillo. Their strategic objective was to win back the international market, especially in northern Europe, and to increase the number of sales. So to achieve this challenge, they needed to renew their visual code, which had become obsolete over the years.
Before starting the label design, we analysed and proposed the messages that we would communicate with the product. The new labelling version had to be inspired by the essence of this range of wines: the influence of the Mediterranean climate to obtain the best quality grapes with designation of origin. Thus, we worked on a redesign of a personalized label for Finca del Mar, with different metallic inks depending on the colour associated with each single variety and different combinations of the stamping design, so that the varieties could be easily differentiated. All this referring to a visual code related to the sun and the sea.
The result is a very elegant packaging design for wines, for one of the best wineries in Europe.
